Read at your own risk

That was the warning my wife sent with a link to a blog about the McClenahan family in Kansas.

The Macs (as their blog is called) are new parents to a beautiful little girl named Cora Paige, age 11 months. The blog looks and sounds just like any number of young family blogs I've followed -- funny anecdotes about Cora, beautiful pictures, lots of talk about new teeth, how much little Cora likes baths, family visits, favorite toys, etc. They are by all accounts a typically sweet, Midwestern American family.

Then, on Monday, Jan. 12, there is a post about little Cora getting an ear infection. The post is simply titled "sick". What follows is a chronicle of every parent's worst nightmare, told as it happens with heartbreaking clarity, hope, sadness and bravery.

Cora died on Sunday. I'm sharing this blog so that maybe you might take something from it, but I'm not sure what, exactly. We all know how precious our children are, and what a blessing every day is that we can share with them. I don't know. I just thought I'd share. It's powerful stuff. It's also as real as real gets.

Let me be clear: Jenny was right -- read it at your own risk. If you don't want a supremely emotional experience, don't go there.
